For this second fire test our main goals were to improve the ignition sequence and augment slightly the power. These objectives were validated as the ignition sequence did work really well, but we had an issue with the video acquisition and we had to stop the test before the end of the sequence.
The big flame you see is mainly unburnt fuel that ignites at the contact of ambiant oxygene, and it happens because the downstream oxidizer flux wasn’t yet opened. One of our goals for the next fire test is to have a nice and controlled flame without combustion instabilities.
In a few weeks we will also have a brand new avionic for the bench. For now we’re using an old version that is restraining us from exploiting Joker at his full potential. New valves, new electronic, new Joker!
